The restaurant has been wildly popular. It is ranked No. 4 out of Beverly’s 118 restaurants on Tripadvisor and for the past three years has won the “Best of the North Shore” award for the best Mexican restaurant.

In addition to the food, the restaurant is known for its tasteful but festive decor, a friendly staff and the smells and sounds of Veracruz, Mexico.

The location was formerly home to a Thai restaurant and City Council President Paul Guanci has joked for years that seats near the window are the only “waterview” restaurant seats in the city, since you can see the ocean by looking down Washington Street.

“Cielito Lindo will not be associated in any way with any future business that may emerge at this location,” the restaurant said in its announcement.

The restaurant said it plans to keep customers updated about “any impending plans on another location nearby.”

Last year, the Barrientos family that owns Cielito Lindo opened La Victoria Taqueria on 6 Wallis St., which features “flavorful and authentic” Mexican street food. There is also another location planned to open soon in Arlington.

“Thank you all very much for your patronage and we will keep you all posted on our future endeavors,” the restaurant said in its statement.
