BEVERLY, MA —A late February snowstorm forecast to bring up to 12 inches of snow to the North Shore will prevent parking on Beverly city streets Friday and extend the delay in trash and recycling pickup into next week.

Beverly's parking ban was set to begin at midnight Thursday night and continue until 6 a.m. on Saturday. All cars parked on public streets are subject to ticketing and towing.

Free or discounted parking is available in municipal lots or the MBTA Garage starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The trash and recycling delay, which was already in effect this week because of the Monday holiday, will now run through next Friday.

Residents who typically have their trash picked up on Thursday will now be picked up Saturday and those who have their trash picked up on Friday will have it collected on Monday.

There will be no trash and recycling pickup on Sunday. Trash will then be picked up on a one-day delay starting Tuesday through Friday.

The Cabot Street Cinema Theater will also be closed on Friday.

A winter storm warning was issued everywhere but the South Shore and Cape Cod, which are under a winter storm watch, from 12 a.m. Friday to 12 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service says snow will start falling before dawn on Friday, gathering 1-2 inches per hour during the morning commute.

The latest forecasts from Thursday morning call for 8-12 inches of snow north of the Mass Pike, while precipitation will change to the wintry mix south of the highway.

While the snow will surely be a shock coming less than 48 hours after record-high temperatures soared to nearly 70 degrees on the North Shore, school vacation week will temper some of the upheavals that go along with a significant winter storm.
