In a note to teachers and staff at the school, Poska said he is "actively pursuing other opportunities." While Poska did not indicate if he had accepted a position at a nother school, he said he wanted to give the district enough time to find his replacement.

Poska, 49, was named principal of Briscoe Middle School in 2006 and continued in the same position when Beverly Middle School opened at the start of the 2018-19 school year.

Last year, Peabody Public Schools named Poska one of four finalists for the principal's opening at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. The school district ultimately chose Chris Lord, who had been the school's interim principal. Poska was also a finalist for the principal's job at Arlington High School in 2013.
