Beverly Planning Board Continues Depot 2 Project Hearing

More than 70 residents attended the hearing on the controversial proposal for a six-story, 115-unit apartment building on Rantoul Street.

BEVERLY, MA — The Beverly Planning Board continued its hearing on Depot 2 Tuesday, the controversial proposal for a six-story, 115-unit apartment building on Rantoul Street. About 70 people attended the hearing on the project, which would be built across from the Beverly Depot on a site now occupied by three historic buildings. The developer, Beverly Crossing argued that the project would improve the area.

"For us the fabric (of Rantoul Street) was torn and tattered and we put it back together," Thad Siemasko, the project's architect, said. According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, residents who spoke at the meeting raised concerns about the size of the project and the impact of the additional housing units on the neighborhood. The hearing will continue on Oct. 22.
