Beverly Resident Honored With NE Water Works State Leadership Award

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly resident Larry Durkin was recently honored with the 2024 State Leadership Award for Massachusetts from the New England Water Works Association.

The NEWWA Water Works State Leadership Award is presented to a state association member of NEWWA to recognize the contributions of the recipient to their state association and to the water works profession, in general.

Durkin has been a member of both NEWWA and the Massachusetts Water Works Association for 24 years. He served in the Peace Corps in Lesotho, Africa, in the 1980s and has been involved in the NEWWA Water for People Committee since 1997.

Durkin served as Vice-Chair for four years and Chair for six years. He was instrumental in the organization of the NEWWA biennial galas and silent auctions, which raised tens of thousands of dollars to benefit Water for People, a charity dedicated to providing safe water and sanitation solutions in developing countries.

He now works for Woodard & Curran as a water treatment plant operator for Lawrence. He holds T4 and D4 Operator-in-Training Drinking Water licenses in MA and is a professional engineer in Massachusetts.

The award was presented during NEWWA's December Membership Meeting on Dec. 18 in Quincy.
