Brush Fire Ignites Near Beverly Hospital On 'Red Flag' Warning Day

BEVERLY, MA — A fast-moving brush fire was reported near Beverly Hospital Tuesday afternoon amid warm temperatures and high winds.

CBS Boston provided helicopter video of the scene and reported firefighters were in the woods near the hospital trying to douse the flames.

The brush fire was reported in the area of Woodland Road.

Beverly fire told Patch that crews were on the scene for about two hours during the afternoon working to contain the fire and that all crews were back at the station by late in the afternoon.

Brush fires were also reported in Burlington, Dedham, Holden, Northborough, Townsend and Wales on Tuesday as the entire state was under a "red flag" warning alert for an increased probability of brush fire igniting and spreading quickly with a lack of vegetation early in the season.

"A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. Any fires that start may spread rapidly and become difficult to extinguish," the weather service said.

While this is considered the burning season in Massachusetts, residents are advised to be extremely cautious or avoid burning brush and other yard waste during elevated fire conditions.
