The Cabot Heads Into Final Shows Before Summer Renovations

Last chance for shows! The Cabot closes June 15 for summer renovations, promising a revitalized venue by mid-September.

BEVERLY, MA – By Mark Allen Wood – Excitement is buzzing in Beverly as the historic Cabot theater gears up for its final two weeks of performances before temporarily closing its doors on June 15 for a significant summer renovation project. This eagerly anticipated makeover is set to refresh the beloved venue, ensuring it continues to shine for generations to come.

The path to these renovations was paved, in part, by the success of The Cabot's annual "Big Night" fundraiser on May 10, which featured the popular indie group Lake Street Dive. Funds raised from this glittering event are being channeled directly into the summer project, which promises a facade refresh and brand-new green rooms for performers. Fans can mark their calendars for mid-September when the theater is slated to reopen with a grand welcome back concert headlined by the legendary Steve Winwood.

"Thanks to the tremendous support from our community, this final phase of renovations will go a long way towards completing the vision set by our five ‘Founders,’ when they saved the theater over a decade ago,” shared Brian Ridolfo, Executive Director of The Cabot. “We look forward to welcoming our community back in September to a revitalized theater that honors our historic legacy while stepping boldly into the future.”

Before the construction crews move in, The Cabot is offering a stellar lineup of final shows. Audiences can look forward to performances by acclaimed singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega (June 5), the hilarious comedian Kristin Key (June 6), and the iconic funk and soul ensemble Tower of Power (June 13).

In a special celebration of Pride Month, The Cabot will also host a free Community Conversations event on June 11. This will feature a screening of “Becoming A Man in 127 EASY Steps,” created by trans artist Scott Turner Schofield, followed by a discussion. Other notable free events include a 1960s Marquee Celebration with a screening of "Soul" on June 3 and a matinee of "North by Northwest" on June 9, sponsored by SeniorCare, Inc.

Off Cabot Keeps the Entertainment Coming!
While the main theater undergoes its transformation, the entertainment doesn't stop in Beverly. Off Cabot Comedy & Events at 9 Wallis Street will remain open, serving up a vibrant mix of comedy, live music, drag shows, and more in its intimate setting.

Kicking off June at Off Cabot is Beverly's own R&B talent Barrence Whitfield on June 1, presented by the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival. The month also features celebrated musician Ellis Paul (June 8) and comedian Don McMillan (June 12), among many other exciting acts. A free ArtsFest Celebration With Gold Velvet Sofa on June 13, presented by Beverly Main Streets, Endicott College, and Off Cabot, is another highlight not to be missed.
