Flying with Angels at The Cabot in Beverly!
Suzanne Vega wove a spell of light and shadow, blending classics and new material with intimate stories for a memorable night.

Suzanne Vega brought her folk-inspired style and presence to a packed audience at the magnificent Cabot Theatre in Beverly, MA. Beverly was only the second date of this new tour, which will primarily cover the East Coast before heading to Europe. There was immediate, intimate engagement between Vega and the audience. An electric guitarist and a cellist added depth and meaning to Vega’s songs , which explore the challenges of navigating a world of light and darkness.
Vega’s song selections ranged from a sampling of tunes from her first record in 1985, “Marlena on the Wall,” to songs like “Luka” and “Tom’s Diner.” She told interesting stories about the origins of her creative process, from a summer camp romance to imagining herself as Bob Dylan’s mysterious chambermaid in his iconic song, “I Want You.”
There were interesting selections from her newest album, “Flying with Angels,” her first offering of new material in 11 years. Vega says that “Each song on the album takes place in an atmosphere of struggle.” For example, a song about Free Speech in Washington Park.
A triumphant evening for Vega, her accompanists, her audience, and The Cabot Theatre!
