Former Superintendent to Become Elementary Principal in N.H.
Dr. James Hayes was schools superintendent for six years in Beverly.
A former Beverly schools superintendent will be an elementary school principal for the next year in New Hampshire.
Dr. James Hayes will be in principal at Lincoln Street School in Exeter, N.H. for the next school year, according to a report by Foster’s Daily Democrat.
Hayes was the superintendent of Beverly schools for six years, from 2004-2010, retiring in June 2010. Before that, he was an assistant superintendent in Beverly for five years. During his tenure, he proposed the first Proposition 2-½ override in the city’s history, which was defeated by voters, and oversaw the $80 million construction of a new academic wing and renovations of Beverly High School.

Hayes will be making $104,000 a year in Exeter. He earned $163,453 in his final year in Beverly and was able to retire with a pension and take a job in another state.
Hayes started work at the school on July 1, according to an announcement by the Exeter School Board. The principal Hayes will replace had worked as head of the school for 25 years, Foster's reported.
