BEVERLY —The following are highlights from the Beverly Police Department Logs from Aug. 23-24.

Wednesday, Aug. 23

  • Someone reported a swimmer having problems swimming out at sea. The Harbormaster got the swimmer out of the water and back to the public tier. The part was advised of the dangers of swimming in the ocean with strong tides.
  • Officers followed up on an overdose from Tuesday night at 56 River Street.
  • Officers followed up with a mother regarding her son's past substance abuse and overdose. The issues outreach worker spent time discussing narcan and other treatment options.
  • Officers followed up with an overdose family member about a young woman's drug use and treatment options, including a swapping out of narcan.
  • A woman walking her dog was attacked by another dog outside of 28 Pratt Avenue. The woman was attacked by a Rottweiler and English Boxer that had escaped their backyard. No injuries were reported, and the owner of the dogs retrieved them.
  • A man was reported as cutting metal off a pole. Police responded to find a man cutting bushes with a saw in the dark, and advised him to end for the day.
  • A drug trafficking arrest was made, with drug and narcotic offenses.

  • Police stopped a man on Lothrop Street for no headlights. The operator was not familiar with his fried's vehicle and was issued a verbal warning.
  • Officers spoke with a party about a stolen bicycle. They plan to speak to the parents of children potentially involved with the theft to see if further action needs to be taken.
  • Michael P. Mercier, 38 of Franklin Place was arrested and charged with trafficking Class A heroin.
