Plum Consignment Offers High End Boutique Feel, Low Prices
Endicott College alum opens new consignment shop on Cabot Street.
Walking downtown, one might mistake the new clothing store at 156 Cabot St. for a high end boutique.
But owner Pam Hulbert said once shoppers take a look at the prices, they'll know what the new Plum Consignment is all about.
Hulbert, an Endicott alum, and Beverly resident for more than 14 years, opened Plum Consignment on June 15, after careers in real estate, graphic design, and most recently, working at an interior design firm in Boston.

Opening a consignment shop, she said, was always part of her plan.
"I had wanted to do it for as long as I could remember," she said. "It was always one of those 'someday things.' When I left my job in January, I hadn't planned on opening [Plum Consignment] right away. Everything just came together, it seemed like the right time to do it."

So what can shoppers expect at Plum Consignment?
For one, Hulbert promises there will be no "grandma sweaters, mom jeans, or power suits." Instead, the shop's demographic is set to reach women 18-35, who are looking for trendy, but not necessarily expensive, items.
"I'm pretty selective about my clothing," Hulbert said. "I'm not particular about designer labels, but it needs to be in good condition and currently in style."
Hulbert, a self proclaimed avid bargain hunter and consignment shopper, said she was tired of digging through unorganized, cluttered racks and bins at other consignment shops. Plus, she promises you'll never get a whiff of moth balls or that 'old clothing smell.'
Once school is in session, Hulbert said she'd also like to host a college night for students. Since opening, she's already hosted events including clothing swap nights, and a once-a-month Ladies Night Out.
For those interested in bringing in their clothing to sell, Hulbert said she meets with sellers by appointment only. Sellers receive 40 percent of the sale price, and after 60 days, if the item has not sold, sellers have the choice to take their items back, or they will be donated to Beverly Bootstraps.
