John Mahan Jr, Beverly Police Officer, City Official, Dies At 82
Longtime town official and former policeman John Mahan Jr. passed away last week.

BEVERLY, MA — John Mahan, Jr, former police officer, school committee member and Councilor at Large, passed away on February 16, last week after a lengthy illness. He was 82 years old.
"Everyone who knew him knew how compassionate and caring he was about his city," said a Facebook post.
Born and raised and educated in Beverly, Mahan was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1953. After graduation he served in the United States Army and came home to become a Beverly police officer.

During his career, Mahan was elected to serve on both the School Committee and Councilor at Large.
Mahan made countless friends through his work as a Beverly police officer, with his warm, caring personality and his sincere interest in the welfare of the people.

He leaves behind his wife who he was married to for 58 years, children, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
"While I worked at the front desk at the Cabot Street Ymca, I'd many occasions to see Officer Mahan. A true gentleman with a great sense of humor," wrote Lenny Gould in a condolence post on Mahan's obituary.
Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, Saturday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
His interment will be in the North Beverly Cemetery.
