Key Members of Cahill Administration up for Approval Monday night

New members of Mayor Mike Cahill's administration will be up for approval by the City Council on Monday night.

The newest members of Mayor Mike Cahill’s City Hall administration will go before the City Council on Monday night for its OK.

Cahill decided to replace the City Solicitor, Planning Director and Finance Director and also to fill the chief-of-staff position that has been vacant for many years.

Cahill has chosen Bryant Ayles and finance director. Ayles, a Beverly resident, ran unsuccessfully for Ward 2 City Council this fall and most recently was the Deputy Director of the non-profit Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund. Before that, he was the Trust Fund’s Director of Administration and Finance. He has also worked in a management position for the state Department of Revenue. His experience includes experience in government finance, municipal audits and experience managing government budgets, Cahill said.

For City Solicitor, Cahill has appointed Stephanie Williams of Beverly.

Williams has been an attorney for 22 years, including cases in state and federal courts including cases involving municipalities and zoning boards as well as other areas of the law, according to Cahill.

She has her own practice in Beverly now and was previously with the Boston law firm Choate, Hall and Stewart for 7 years.

Aaron Clausen is Cahill’s choice for Director of Planning and Development. He most recently worked as the No. 2 person in the Planning Department for the city of Lowell.

Williams’ and Clausen’s appointments go before the City Council’s Legal Affairs committee and Ayles’ appointment goes before the Finance and Property committee.

The City Charter requires that Cahill’s appointments be approved by the City Council. No problems are expected and Ayles and Williams have been on the job since last month.

Cahill called his new hires “highly-competent professionals who possess the skills and commitment to serve us and our city effectively.”

The appointment of a chief-of-staff does not require City Council approval, but Cahill has requested to transfer $36,100 from the budget for an unfilled position in the Planning Department to the Executive Department to pay the position’s salary through the end of the fiscal year in June.
