Obituary: Robert Timothy Cahill, 49, BHS Grad and One of Six Brothers

Robert Timothy Cahill of Beverly died on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014.

Robert Timothy Cahill of Beverly passed peacefully in his sleep early Monday morning, Nov. 24, 2014, after an evening out enjoying the company of his brothers and nephews. Bob grew up in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School in 1983. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Lesley University and his Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University. He was a longtime resident of Dorchester before moving home to Beverly two years ago to spend more time with his family.

Bob was a kind, loving, gregarious man with many passions, chief among them his beloved family, his many longtime childhood, work, hockey, and sober friends, and family vacations. Bob also loved politics, following and debating issues, and especially helping his loved ones achieve success in their political endeavors.

Professionally, Bob worked in banking for many years, starting as a teller at Security National Bank and rising to work in Community Reinvestment for Fleet Bank and Citizens Bank. He then went to work for nearly 10 years for the City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development as Budget Director, then as Chief of Staff for State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry, and most recently as Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Administration for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance.

Bob was an avid cyclist and participated in several AIDS fundraising rides. He also played for many years for the Boston Lobsters gay men’s hockey team, winning three gold medals and one silver medal in the International Gay Games.

Bob’s family and especially his nephews and niece were most important to him, and he spent countless hours in hockey rinks, at athletic fields and in theaters all over New England watching them play sports and perform in plays and concerts. He also loved traveling with family, especially to Ireland for visits with his large extended Irish family.

Bob leaves behind five brothers including Edward F. Cahill and his wife M. Elizabeth Cahill, William J. Cahill, Jr. and his wife Laurie A. Cahill, Michael P. Cahill, Sean R. Cahill and Timothy P. Cahill and his wife Kathryn P. Cahill, all of Beverly. Bob is also survived by six nephews and one niece whom he loved dearly, including Matthew R. Cahill, Peter J. Cahill, Andrew P. Cahill, Liam R. Cahill, Aidan P. Cahill, Justin W. Cahill and Gianna C. Cahill. He is now reunited with his parents, William and Jeanne Cahill along with his grandparents and other family in Heaven. He is much loved and will be missed and remembered always.

Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly on Friday, Nov. 28 from 3-8 p.m. Relatives and friends invited to attend. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Church, 672 Hale Street, Beverly Farms. Burial will be in Beverly Farms Cemetery.
