Snow Day Beverly: Municipal Offices Closed Friday

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly Public Schools are closed on Friday for the first snowstorm of 2022.

All municipal offices in Beverly, except the Department of Public Servies, Beverly police and Beverly fire, are closed Friday.

The Beverly Public Library is closed. The library's digital collection of books, movies and other media can be found here.

"The crews are out working the roads but conditions out there are not good right now," The Beverly Fire Department said about 10 a.m. on Friday. "Stay in if you can, leave extra room between you and the car in front of you if you must drive. And please don't walk down the road. The plows are out and may not see you."

The district said Thursday it was canceling school with up to 8 inches of snow expected in Eastern Mass.

Because the state is not counting any remote learning days toward the required 180-day in-person learning requirement this year, the district will have an old-fashioned snow day.

"Please note that this is a 'traditional' snow day for all students with no expectation for remote learning," the district confirmed.

As of Thursday, the vaccination clinic at Beverly High School and the middle school "Schoolhouse Rock" performance were to be held as scheduled. Evening events planned for the high school will be held unless later-day conditions warrant a postponement.

Commissioner of Public Services and Engineering Michael Collins also declared a 24-hour snow emergency set to go into effect at midnight Friday morning.

There is no parking allowed on any city street with vehicles left on the street subject to ticketing and towing.

Municipal lots are available for those who have no other accommodations. Meter fees must be paid during normal meter hours.

The MBTA garage located on Rantoul Street is available to residents at a discounted rate. Use the PayByPhone app to pay for parking. The discounted rate at the MBTA garage was set to begin at 9 p.m. Thursday night.

The state is also closing all "Stop the Spread" coronavirus testing sites on Friday. The Salem walk-in site at St. Peter's Church and the drive-thru site at Salem High School will both be closed.
