Students Return to Class at Art College This Week
Five things to know - a great way to start the day with a quick look at the events and happenings in the city.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily source for community events, happenings in the city and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Monday, Jan. 13.
1. Wow: The forecast for Monday is shaping up to be quite nice – sunny skies with temperatures in the 40s. There will be a south wind blowing at 10 miles per hour with gusts to 25 mph.
2. Montserrat: Students at Montserrat College of Art, with its downtown Beverly campus, will return to classes for the spring semester on Tuesday. Returning students moved back in on Sunday and classes start again on Tuesday. The spring semester runs through May 6.

3. Fenway: There’s been a 20 foot tall sledding and tubing hill set up in the outfield at Fenway Park for the past few weeks as part of the “Frozen Fenway” hockey games and other winter-themed entertainment at the park. Monday marks the final day that the hill will be open to the public. It is open in one-hour windows from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person to sled for an hour.
4. Unemployed: U.S. Rep. John Tierney, D-Salem, who represents Beverly in Congress, will work to bolster support to extend unemployment insurance for 58,000 Massachusetts workers without benefits on Monday by telling the stories of the loss of unemployment insurance during a conference call with the press. In addition to some unemployed workers, Tierney will be joined by Mary Sarris, Executive Director of the North Shore Workforce Investment Board and Executive Director Mark Whitmore of the North Shore Career Center.

5. City Council: The subcommittees of the City Council meet for the first time on Monday night as the "new" Council with four new members. The committee meetings start at 6:30 p.m. in the third floor conference rooms in City Hall at 6:30 p.m. with the Public Services Committee, which will take up the reappointment of members of the Harbor Management Authority, Board of Health and Parks and Recreation Committee. The Finance and Property and Legal Affairs committees will also meet.
