Winds Over 60 mph Possible in Approaching Storm

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued on Monday morning for much of the greater Boston and North Shore area.

A severe thunderstorm is headed toward areas of the North Shore and greater Boston on Monday morning.

A severe thunderstorm warning running until 9:30 a.m. was issued for northwestern Suffolk County, eastern Middlesex County, northwestern Norfolk County and southwestern Essex County.

The storm was near Natick moving northeast at 30 miles per hour at 30 miles per hour at 8:50 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is capable of producing winds over 60 mph, the weather service said.

Some of the communities in the warning area include Boston, Newton, Somerville, Framingham, Waltham, Malden, Brookline, Medford, Peabody, Arlington, Salem, Beverly, Woburn and Andover.

The weather service recommends that residents stay indoors away from windows and drivers prepare for low visibility and recommends they avoid flooded roads.
