BOSTON, MA — Two Massachusetts state representatives tested positive for COVID-19 Friday, according to an email sent to House members from Speaker Robert DeLeo that was obtained by news outlets.

The representatives were not identified due to medical privacy laws. They were last in the State House on Thursday, and anyone who came in contact with them has been notified, DeLeo said.

The State House will undergo a "comprehensive environmental cleaning," which will include the chamber, impacted members' work areas and all offices and office suites used by the representatives who tested positive.

DeLeo expects the House will see more cases amid rising rates across Massachusetts.

"As we all know from daily news reports the virus continues to circulate in the community. Therefore, we will very likely have more self-reported cases from members and employees in the coming days and weeks," the email read in part.
