Cloudy, Wet Start To Memorial Day Weekend

BOSTON, MA — Memorial Day weekend is getting off to a cloudy start as New England hoped for warmer weather and got scattered showers instead. Bay Staters might want to save the bonfire for Sunday or Monday as temperatures in the low 60's on Sunday will likely be joined with scattered showers and gusty winds.

Clouds moved over southern New England on Saturday morning with the possibility of showers starting after 8 a.m. The National Weather Service said residents can expect a slight break but more showers in the afternoon — the showers hitting the north of the Mass Pike will move out of the area by the late morning and over to the south coast in the afternoon.

The rest of the weekend has a drier outlook, although temperatures drop a bit. Memorial Day will see some clouds but will stay dry with temperatures in the low 60's. Sadly the real sun and grilling weather isn't expected until Tuesday when temperatures heat up to the high 70's, according to the National Weather Service.

A slight chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 51 by 4pm. North wind 7 to 17 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
