Last Night's Elections Were About Survival, Progress
Massachusetts mayoral election results: Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia, charged with corruption, advanced, as did others in major cities.

Unless you lived in one of the communities, you may not have known that Tuesday was Election Day for several cities and towns across Massachusetts. The preliminary elections were to pare down larger fields of candidates into smaller ones ahead of the Nov. 5 election.

He's proven it twice now. It's going to take more than arrests and federal charge to keep the people of Fall River from voting for Jasiel Correia.
Correia, the embattled yet defiant young mayor of the old mill city in southeastern Massachusetts, came in second place in a preliminary mayoral election Tuesday night. That earned him a spot on the Nov. 5 ballot against School Committee member Paul Coogan, who ran away with the top spot on the ballot.

State Rep. Wins To Set Up Melrose Mayoral Showdown
Midway through Paul Brodeur's victory speech at his campaign headquarters in the old Papa Gino's Tuesday night, Monica Medeiros burst in to congratulate him. Seven weeks before the two share a ballot, they shared a celebration.
Brodeur, a state representative, and Medeiros, an at-large alderman, were the top two finishers in Melrose's preliminary mayoral election, emerging from a field of five candidates to set up a race for the city's first open mayoral seat in nearly two decades.
The three hopefuls who entered Tuesday with an eye toward being the next mayor of Waltham are now down to two: Mayor Jeannette McCarthy and Councilor Diane LeBlanc will face off on the November ballot.
Braintree Mayoral Field Cut In Half
The two candidates emerged from a field of four in Tuesday's preliminary mayoral election. One of them will be the new mayor of Braintree.
Framingham's Fresh Faces Move On
All of the seats are two-year terms and the crop of candidates are fresh faces, with no incumbents running among them.
There were no major upsets in Tuesday's preliminary election in Salem, with incumbents in races for school committee and at-large seats on city council advancing to the Nov. 5 general election.
Medford's Field Of 15 Whittled Down ... To 14
Fifteen hopefuls entered Tuesday with an eye toward the City Council. Fourteen are now headed to the general election in November.
