MA Weather: Widespread Weekend Storm To Hammer New England

There will be widespread precipitation from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday, but rising temperatures may mean just a lot of rain.

A weekend storm with a chance of snow will interrupt an otherwise sunny late January stretch. Forecasters said rising temperatures are likely to make this primarily a rain event, but the chance for snow exists in higher elevations.

The widespread rain will start Saturday afternoon and persist through the evening into early Sunday. Temperatures aren't expected to hit freezing all day Saturday — and will straddle the line into Sunday — meaning you should opt for an umbrella over a shovel. You can see the expected precipitation time in the simulated radar below, via the National Weather Service.

There has not been much snow this winter, with a few inches last weekend among the worst in January. That isn't likely to change through the end of the month; The weather will stay relatively sunny and hover around 40 degrees in the days after the storm.
