Newton-Wellesley Hospital Preps for Post Marathon Injury Clinics
Free medical clinics will be offered Tuesday, April 19 and April 26 for the athletes participating in the Boston Marathon.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital will again offer a free athlete’s post-marathon injury clinic to provide diagnosis and treatment of injuries that are the result of participating in the Boston Marathon. The free medical clinic will be offered on Tuesday, April 19 and Tuesday, April 26 from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Surgical Center, located at the east entrance of Newton-Wellesley Hospital at 2014 Washington St.
Staffed by a multi-disciplinary team with extensive knowledge and experience in sports medicine and marathon injuries, athletes coming to the clinic will be examined by an orthopedist, physiatrist, podiatrist, physical therapist, athletic trainer or nurse, as appropriate. A physician may order x-rays and lab tests at no charge to the athlete, if necessary. Participants will also receive treatment including manual therapy, advice on appropriate exercises and supportive modalities, such as braces, casts and dressings when necessary.

“We are happy to offer these free services to the athletes of the 120th Boston Marathon,” said Danielle Cooper, a physical therapist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
Cooper has said that athletes should consider coming to the clinic if they have any lingering orthopedic pain or are suffering from blisters or skin irritation of their feet, as podiatrists will be on staff. However, if an athlete feels ill, is suffering from dizziness, excessive fatigue, rapid heart rate or abdominal pains, the individual should seek attention at an urgent care center so that they are treated by appropriate staff.
