Pedestrian Sent To Hospital After Hit By Car In Brighton

A pedestrian was crossing Commonwealth Ave near the Chiswick Road B Line stop when she was hit, according to a witness.

BOSTON - A crash on Commonwealth Ave Sunday afternoon near the Chiswick Road B Line stop sent at young woman to the hospital, and prompted police to close off the road to investigate the crash. A witness told Patch a young woman was running to catch the train when a driver hit the girl.

The witness said the driver had the green light and tried to stop when the woman ran out, but still hit her. He told Patch he heard the driver, also a young woman, scream in distress.

He said initially the pedestrian was conscious, but appeared to be bleeding.

The driver stayed to cooperate with police.

The young woman was the latest in a recent spate of reported crashes in Boston involving pedestrians.

Two people were sent to the hospital earlier Sunday in a separate crash when a driver hit a pedestrian around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Harvard and Brighton avenues.

In August - the latest data available - there were 56 crashes that involved pedestrians across Boston. One of those was a fatality, according to city data. There were 430 crashes reported in total, including ones involving pedestrians, cars and bicycles, according to the city's Vision Zero data.
