Strand Theatre to Host 'Counter-Inaugural Celebration of Resistance' Thursday
The event is meant to offer a counterpoint and call to action the night before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

BOSTON, MA — Protest and activism ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump continues in Boston, with a "resistance festival" planned on the eve of Trump's swearing-in at Dorchester's Strand Theatre.
“Together We Rise: A Counter-Inaugural Celebration of Resistance” runs from 7-10:30 p.m. Thursday.
As described in a press release, it "will showcase spoken word poets, musicians, comedians, and authors in a call-to-action concert while rallying community members to stand up for a more just, peaceful, and creative future."

The event begins with a half-mile musical procession to the theater and a gallery show of local artists entitled, “I Will Not Let History Repeat Itself.” The works speak to a wide range of social issues, from climate change to police brutality, the press release said.
The culmination of the event is a "call-to-action concert" headlined by musician Larry Watson.

"Organizers anticipate drawing a crowd of more than 1,000 guests with the aim of encouraging attendees to take creative political action during the coming four years," according to the release.
