Woman Gets Out Of Uber, Hit By Jeep In O'Neill Tunnel

A woman abruptly got out of an Uber and then was hit by a Jeep in the O'Neill Tunnel on Monday morning, according to State Police.

BOSTON — A 29-year-old Boston woman who got out of an Uber inside the O'Neill tunnel and was hit by a car is in critical condition after she was rushed to the Tufts Medical Center this morning during the morning commute.

Around 7:30 a.m. the woman, a passenger in an Uber driving inside the O'Neill Tunnel near exit 23 on Route 93, got out of the 2012 Mazda Cx9 that had picked her up at the airport and was set to take her home. She was then hit by a 31-year-old Charlestown man driving a Jeep Cherokee.

Multiple people called 911. When first responders arrived the woman was in the road with what police described as life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep that hit the woman, as well as the driver of the Uber, both remained at the crash site and have been interviewed by Troopers, according to police.

"Troopers have interviewed the drivers of the Mazda and the Jeep, and have processed and documented the Jeep. The investigation is ongoing," police said.

No further information about the crash is being released at this time, police said.

The crash and response caused severe traffic delays throughout the morning, prompting road closures. By 8:35 a.m. that all lanes had re-opened, according to State Police.
