Brockton Man Charged With Assaulting Police With Car
The police officer was dragged several feet by the car and then thrown to the ground.
BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man is facing several charges after he tried to get out of a traffic stop and dragged an officer off with him, throwing the officer to the ground and then crashing the car into a guardrail.
The 25-year-old Brockton man was arrested on Aug. 28. According to the Department of Justice, the man's car dragged the officer several feet as he tried to drive away. The car crashed head-on into the Route 24 guardrail driving 100 mph and ran across travel lanes of Route 24 before he was stopped.
The incident happened on July 27 when the man was stopped for speeding on Route 28 in Avon. During the traffic stop, the man tried to drive away, dragging the officer and crashing. The man got out of his car and ran across the travel lanes of Route 24, and was almost hit several times by oncoming traffic.

Officers later found that the man was on probation resulting from an armed robbery conviction in Suffolk Superior Court.
For assaulting a federal officer, the charging statute provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
