Brockton High mentoring program helps students build bright futures (enterprisenews.com) — Brockton High School has launched a new Youth Guidance mentoring program, bringing two full-time counselors to support about 105 students with academics, behavior, and emotional challenges. Funded through 2028, the BAM and WOW programs offer weekly small-group sessions and individual counseling, aiming to reduce violence, boost attendance, and improve mental health for Brockton teens. Leaders with local ties hope to embed deeply in the school community.

2. Three dead, driver arrested following crash on I-91 ramp in West Springfield (wwlp.com) — Two Brockton men were among three construction workers killed when a speeding Jeep Cherokee crashed on an I-91 ramp in West Springfield early Friday, according to prosecutors. The driver, a West Springfield man, allegedly fled on foot before being captured after a multi-agency search and is now charged with three counts of manslaughter. The victims, who worked for Premier Fence, were repairing guardrails when they were struck.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Geneva group saves reusable materials from soon-to-be demolished classroom building (fltimes.com) — A Brockton native is making a quiet impact far from home, as Hobart College basketball player Niko Lutz helps salvage reusable furniture and equipment from a Geneva science building slated for demolition. Working with Geneva ReUse Systems, Lutz and his teammates are turning their winter break into hands-on community service that keeps valuable materials out of landfills.

Boston Police Blotter: Massachusetts prisoner gets decade for beating fellow inmate to death (bostonherald.com) — A man who died after an assault at the Massachusetts Treatment Center in Bridgewater was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, where he was pronounced dead, tying this regional case to the city. The broader police blotter also details a Boston Lululemon theft, a Dorchester shooting arrest, and a list of recent Boston-area criminal charges.
