4-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Pool At Home In Brookline
Officials responded to the home around 4:40 p.m. Monday for a child who was found unresponsive in the pool.

BROOKLINE, MA — A four-year-old boy drowned at a home on Prescott Street in Brookline Monday afternoon, said the Brookline Police Department in a statement.
Officials responded to the home around 4:40 p.m. for a child who was found unresponsive in the pool. Adults on scene at the residence were performing CPR on the child with the guidance of a dispatcher and lifesaving efforts continued upon the arrival of first responders.
The child was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. His identity will not be released to respect the family’s privacy.

Brookline detectives, state police, and the Norfolk County DA’s Office are actively investigating the incident. At this time, police said they know the child was one of several children in the pool when he d and that several adults were in very close proximity.
"At this time this case appears to be an unfortunate accident, however it remains under investigation and we will let you know if that changes,” police said.

"For so many of us, Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer, and this tragedy serves as an important reminder that drowning can happen in a matter of seconds, and it’s often silent, not the way it’s depicted in the movies or on television,” they continued.
According to police, more children ages one to four die from drowning than any other cause of death except birth defects, and for children ages one to 14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes.
