5 Brookline Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

Brookline has a diverse group of charities that could use additional support.

BROOKLINE, MA — If you’re like many of your Brookline neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Brookline area.
Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Brookline Food Pantry: Founded 40 years ago, the Brookline Food Pantry now serves more than 600 per week with its three locations at 15 Marion St., 226 High St., and 55 Egmont St.
  2. Brookline Teen Center: The Center holds "responsive programming" for local teenagers which gives them an opportunity to positively engage with their community. It also has recreational programs such as sports, video gaming, cooking, and recording music.
  3. ArtsBrookline: This nonprofit promotes and supports local artists by giving them a platform to demonstrate their talents, providing affordable studio options, and advocating for equitable access to the tools required to create.
  4. The Brookline Center: The Brookline Center has a staff of approximately 100 clinicians who work in the school district and healthcare centers. It has focused on mental health since its inception in 1958.
  5. Hospitality Homes: Hospitality Homes helps those in need of out-of-town medical treatment find temporary living space for them and their caregivers.
