Allston Man Charged with Fleeing the Scene of an Accident on Winchester Street

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate a conviction.

On March 1 at 4:46 a.m., Brookline Police Officers responded to a report of a car accident on Winchester Street. The driver was described as a white male about 5’6’’ wearing a tan hat walking towards Commonwealth Avenue.

When the officer arrived, the caller flagged him down and pointed towards Corey Road, where the suspect took off running. The officer located the suspect and told him to go back to the scene of the accident.

When officers asked the suspect what had happened, the suspect stated that he was trying to turn right on to Winchester Street and hit a telephone pole. At this time, officers reportedly smelled liquor on the suspect’s breath and observed that his eyes were glassy. The suspect was unharmed. The engine was still running and the rear taillights and windshield wipers were on. Each airbag had deployed.

The caller reported that they were at home watching TV when they heard a car crash and felt the ground shake. The caller called 911 and reported that the driver had exited the car then took off running.

At this point, officers arrested Thomas Musa, 21, of 290 Corey Road, Allston, and charged him with OUI-Liquor and leaving the scene of property damage. Upon searching Musa, officers found what they believed was a small bag of marijuana. Musa was issued a Town Bylaw citation for possession of less than an ounce. Officers found an empty nip of Wild Turkey on the floor of the car

NSTAR arrived on scene and determined that the pole would need to be replaced.
