Brookline Booksmith To Take Over Dependable Cleaners, Expand Store

BROOKLINE, MA — The Brookline Booksmith will be under construction for the next month to expand its store, taking over the space next door that was once Dependable Cleaners dry cleaning.

The Brookline Booksmith, one of New England’s premier independent bookstores, has been family-owned and locally run since 1961 and now includes a used book cellar, gift shop, and café.

"The Booksmith is about to grow!” said the store in a Tweet Friday. Through the end of May, you’ll see construction happening in our store — a small island of disruption that will open a bigger, brighter Booksmith. Our hours are the same as ever and you'll still be able to get to all the things you love!”

The last time the Brookline Booksmith expanded was in 2019, when they took over the Verizon store two doors down from their main store in Coolidge Corner to establish its restaurant space.
