Brookline Man Gets 42 Months In Prison For Possessing Ghost Guns

BOSTON, MA — A Brookline man was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison Thursday for being in possession of ghost guns, ammunition and firearm parts, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the state of Massachusetts announced.

Stewart Silvestri, 24, was sentenced by a U.S. District Court judge after pleading guilty in July to one count of unlawful possession of machine guns.

According to police reports, on Oct. 15, 2022, Silvestri was pulled over by officers on Route 95 in Rowley after authorities received multiple reports about an erratic driver.

Silvestri told the police that he had come from an armory in New Hampshire, and officers observed Silvestri sitting on what appeared to be a firearm, police said.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and authorities said that 14 privately made firearms, also known as ghost guns, were recovered, in addition to hundreds of rounds of ammunition and numerous firearm parts, authorities said.

Two of the firearms were fully automatic pistols, which are classified as machine guns, according to court records.

In a release, the U.S. Attorney's Office said the case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
