BROOKLINE, MA — A Brookline native has given a Central Massachusetts University the biggest donation in its history.
Clark University Trustee and Alumnus Ron Shaich gifted his alma mater with a $20 million gift. According to the University, the funds will be primarily used for expanded enrollment and financial aid initiatives, as well as to raise awareness and bolster the University’s School of Climate.
Shaich is best known for being the founder of Panera Bread. He is also the founder of the personal investment firm Act III Holdings. He also has ties to other enterprises such as Au Bon Pain, Cava, Tatte Bakery and Cafe, Life Alive, Honest Greens Barcelona, and Level 99. He graduated from Clark in 1976.
“I couldn’t be more inspired or grateful for this singular act of support for the institution,” Clark President David Fithian said in a statement.
