Brookline Native Is Squaring Up To Cancer
Devon Shatkin is boxing for a good cause this fall.

BROOKLINE, MA — A Brookline native is squaring up to cancer next month in a special charity boxing event next month.
Devon Shatkin will be one of 26 people who partake in the first Haymakers For Hope Belles of the Brawl in 14 years. She will be stepping into the ring at MGM Music Hall on Thursday, Oct. 9 to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Shatkin became motivated to partake when her 38-year-old brother Matt was diagnosed with a rare liver cancer known as Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma earlier this year. The police officer is determined to support her brother in anyway she can.

“Beyond challenging myself physically and mentally, beyond fundraising for cancer research, awareness and survivorship, the principal purpose of this endeavor is to show Matt the vastness of the community of support accessible to him if and whenever he needs it,” Shatkin said.
Donations can still be made to Shatkin online.
