Brookline Offering Life-saving Cardiac Courses

The town's health department is providing CPR and AED training as part of American Heart Month in February.

BROOKLINE, MA — The Brookline Department of Public Health and Human Services announced the launch of its Heart Beat Project on Monday. The project will offer three free CPR and AED hands-only training sessions to the community throughout the week.

The information sessions will take place in the Town Hall lobby on Washington Street. They will be held on three consecutive days of Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 9 a.m., and Thursday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. Visitors can partake in 10-minute sessions if they come during the three-hour window.

Following these initial courses, Public Health Nurse Kat Troisi-Bossi and Community Health Manager Darlene Johnson will visit numerous other locations around town to provide additional free training and information on how to become fully CPR-certified.

"Knowing how to perform hands-only CPR and use an AED can mean the difference between life and death in a cardiac emergency, Public Health Director Sigalle Reiss said. “The Heart Beat Project offers community members these life-saving skills to create a safer, more prepared Brookline.”

The initiative is part of the town’s recognition of American Heart Month.
