BROOKLINE, MA — Resident Danna Perry announced she is running for a seat on the School Committee in the town’s upcoming election on Tuesday. May 6.

The Brookline native grew up in Coolidge Corner and returned to her hometown more than a decade ago to enroll her children in the school district. During her time away, she lived in places such as Cape Cod, New York City, and the Bahamas.

According to Perry, her experience includes serving on Lawrecne’s Parent Teacher Organization, and also taking part in that district’s search for a principal. Perry is a current member of the Brookline Parents Organization.

She cited the $8 million deficit the district is expected to face in fiscal year 2026 as a main reason for her decision to run.

“It’s time for accountability, for evaluating budget dollars carefully so we can prioritize academics and the high-quality programming that our community values, and for asking in-depth questions, even if that means challenging the status quo,” Perry said.

Other challenges Perry hopes to address if elected include post-COVID-19 recovery, bullying, and placing an emphasis on special education.

The School Committee is slated to have three open seats for this year’s election. In addition to Perry, incumbents Valerie Frias and Helen Charlupski, resident Bob Weintraub, resident Uri Mariash, and resident Akiva Leibowitz are also vying for a position.
