BROOKLINE, MA — The police department celebrated the retirement of an officer after four decades of service to the town.

Officer Michael Hunter announced his retirement this week. He joined the department on Nov. 26, 1984 and held many positions in the patrol, traffic, and meter divisions throughout his diverse career. For his last 14 years, Hunter was the first face people saw at the Brookline Police Station as he worked the front desk at the lobby.

“Mikes colleagues describe him as a mentor, leader and friend. His calm demeanor, and positive attitude made Mike a pleasure to work with,” the department said in a statement. “Mike truly cared about the department, his fellow officers and the community in general.”
