Brookline Police Sergeant Files Lawsuit Against Town, Other Police Officers: Report

Sergeant Megan Keaveney has been a Brookline police officer for nine years.

BROOKLINE, MA — A police sergeant is suing the town and multiple members of the Brookline Police Department on accusations of discrimination and retaliation against her, according to a report from Brookline News.

Sergeant Megan Keaveney’s complaint alleges that she began being discriminated against and retaliated against in 2021 after experiencing difficulties with a subordinate officer. Keaveney believes Chief Jennifer Paster has held a grudge against her for the incident due to Paster’s personal relationship with the affected officer.

Keaveney alleges that the department viewed her as a “traitor” to the department’s internal affairs division when she testified about another officer’s discrimination and hired a lawyer herself in preparation for her lawsuit.

Keaveney believes the greatest example of discrimination against her was when she was not selected for a promotion to lieutenant in 2023. According to Brookline Communications Director Christina Metcalf, the town denies all allegations.
