BROOKLINE, MA — The town is looking for high school students to fill out its new Youth Council.

The council’s formation was approved during last fall’s town meeting. The council’s goal is to engage its younger generation in local politics, civic leadership, and community development. The group will be composed of nine members between the ages of 14 and 18. The members will have the opportunity to make recommendations and have discussions to the Select Board and other officials on youth-related matters, take part in town-organized community service projects, and representing the young people of Brookline.

Appointed members must be a student of either the public school district or a private school located in town. They will then be eligible to serve consecutive terms unless they turn 19 years of age.
The seats are divided by precinct, with two seats each for precincts 1 through 4, 5 through 8, 9 through 13, and 13 through 17 respectively. The final seat has no precinct limitations.
