Brookline Reconsidering School Resource Officer Decision: Report
The town eliminated the position in 2021.

BROOKLINE, MA — Some town leadership is considering bringing back school resource officers to the district, according to a report from CBS News Boston.
Brookline Police Deputy Superintendent Paul Campbell testified that he has heard discussion about reinstating the position. Campbell describes the role of SROs as enhancing safety within schools and increasing trust between students and police. However, Brookline Executive Director For Racial Justice and Equity Raul Fernandez has argued an armed police officer’s omnipresence is more dangerous than safe.
The school committee voted unanimously to eliminate the position in 2021.
