BROOKLINE, MA — The Select Board released its preliminary budget for fiscal year 2026 on Monday.

The projected budget of $456,608,710 is a 4.4% increase compared to FY25. According to the town, the increase is due to a projected 12% growth to group health insurance premium costs. The town plans to absorb the increase by pausing the annual increase on some post-employment benefits as well as a total of $530,000 in reductions across all town departments.

Another feature of the budget is a new trash collection contract that aims to improve collection services, but will in turn bring about an increased fee.
