Brookline’s Japonaise Bakery To Reopen After Two-Yearlong Closure

The beloved Brookline café and bakery plans to re-open this summer, with new items as well as old favorites expected on the menu.

BROOKLINE, MA – A popular Brookline bakery that’s been temporarily closed for over two years has finally shared a long-awaited update.

Japonaise Bakery is set to re-open this summer, owner Takeo Sakan wrote on Instagram, with new items as well as old favorites expected on the menu.

The family-owned business, which has been in operation in Brookline for nearly 40 years, closed temporarily in May 2021 for extensive renovations.

The cafe initially planned to close for just two months, but the closure stretched to two years, to the disappointment of many Brookline residents.

Sakan did not specify an exact opening date, but said an update on the opening will be shared as soon as possible. He also encouraged community members to keep an eye on the cafe’s social media.

The cafe is also hiring new staff members, including bakers, pastry chefs, cashiers, baristas, and office help. Interested applicants can email japonaise617@gmail.com to apply.
