Brookline Sanitation Fees To Increase Starting July 1: What To Know

Sanitation fees will be increased to support the growing program costs for Brookline's Hybrid Pay-As-You-Throw program.

BROOKLINE, MA – Sanitation fee changes are set to increase in Brookline come July 1, according to the Brookline Department of Public Works.

Due to changes in the refuse and recycling market, collection and administrative costs, and inflation for supplies and services, the town’s costs have increased significantly since for the hybrid Pay-As-You-Throw program.

The program, which began in Brookline in 2017, allows residents to pay a per-unit fee for disposal of household trash as a financial incentive to reduce, reuse, and recycle more.
