Brookline School District Laments Death Of Teacher

BROOKLINE, MA — The Brookline school community is mourning the death of Baker School Eighth Grade teacher Matthew Goldstein.

The 52-year-old Newton resident was found dead on Christmas Day in Concord, New Hampshire along with his wife and two children. Goldstein’s cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the chief medical examiner. The cause of death for the rest of his family is still pending.

Superintendent Linus Guillory Jr. described Goldstein as an exceptional educator as well as an important and beloved member of the district.

“Mr. Goldstein's dedication to inspiring students and shaping young minds has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him,” Gilroy said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues and students during this profoundly difficult time.”
Baker School Principal Saeed Ola detailed that the district is working to provide support to grieving students and staff.

"Tragic news like this is difficult to process, and we know that our entire school community will need support during this challenging time," Ola said.
