BROOKLINE, MA — The Brookline Hub honored Saya Ameli Hajebi as the 2020 Brookline Youth of the Year. Hajabi is the tenth young person in Brookline to receive the honor that was announced during the Hub's live broadcast of its 10th anniversary award show.

Hajabi came to the US about nine years ago from Iran. Since then, she's become a climate activist and youth leader who has participated in and organized marches and rallies, and collaborated with the Bernie Sanders campaign in-between her schoolwork.

She is a spokesperson for the Sunrise Movement and is passionate about raising awareness about the climate crisis. Last fall, she helped lead a climate rally that drew thousands to Boston's Government Center. PHOTOS: Thousands Attend Boston Climate Rally

Amid an unprecedented time of pandemic, she graduated from Brookline High School and reflected on the live broadcast about the lengths to which the school administration and teachers went to ensure it was memorable. The artist, graphic designer, parkour coach and environmental activist said during the 10th Annual Brookline Hub Youth Awards she's ready to see where the next step will take her.
