BROOKLINE, MA — Many people would say that the Mahaniyom Thai tapas restaurant in Brookline is tough to beat, but there might be new compeition for the best spot in town: a dive bar from the people behind Mahaniyom.
Merai, which means "alcohol" in Thai, is co-owned by Mahaniyom's Chompon "Boong" Boonnak and his business partners and sits on Harvard Street in the heart of Brookline Village, Eater Boston said Monday.
The outlet teased the restaurant's menu of dive bar staples like wings, hot dogs, and french fries "through a Thai (and occasionally more broadly pan-Asian) lens" and a drink menu with cocktails ranging from vodka, Korean barley, and yuzu concoction served in a tea kettle to a "strawberry cheesecake" cocktail with vodka, gin, strawberries, and cheese foam.
