Election Results: Trump's Brookline Vote Decreased From 2016

BROOKLINE, MA — President Donald Trump's loss in Massachusetts on Tuesday was expected in the perennially deep blue state, but how did he fare among Brookline residents this time around?

According to official vote totals from Brookline election officials, support for Trump waned in town in 2020, falling ever so slightly from 12.9 percent to 12.8 percent.

In 2016, he earned 3,175 votes, while Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton earned 24,583. Compare that to his 3,322 votes in 2020 to Democrat opponent Joe Biden's 26,046 votes.

Tuesday's vote put a heavy spotlight on a heated battle for control of the White House, unfolding during a pandemic that killed nearly a quarter of a million Americans before Election Day.

CNN reported in October that polling put Biden up by 25 points among women voters. According to the final 2016 pre-election polls, Clinton won women voters by 13 points among likely voters and 14 points among registered voters.

As we wait for the election official to finish counting legitimate ballots this week, Trump doubled down on claims Wednesday that he had won the 2020 presidential election, while Joe Biden's campaign said it would fight any efforts by the president to go to the U.S. Supreme Court to prevent outstanding ballots from being tabulated.

The presidential election may not be decided for days or longer because of higher numbers of absentee ballots cast amid the coronavirus pandemic.
