Five More Unions Endorse Rep. Tommy Vitolo For Re-Election
The group include s1199 SEIU, SEIU NAGE, Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, Boston Carmen's Union Local 589, and Laborers Local 22.

BROOKLINE, MA — Five more labor unions have endorsed Tommy Vitolo's re-election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, including 1199 SEIU, SEIU NAGE, Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, Boston Carmen's Union Local 589, and Laborers Local 22.
The union Martin Luther King Jr. called his “favorite union,” 1199SEIU represents 56,000 healthcare workers in Massachusetts. SEIU NAGE represents 22,000 workers across 60 state agencies and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers Local 17, commonly known as SMART Local 17, comprises over 2,700 working men and women in several New England states.
The Boston Carmen's Union Local 589 represents over 6,000 people employed by the MBTA to operate subways, streetcars, and buses and to dispatch, inspect, and repair MBTA equipment and Laborers Local 22 represents over 2,000 laborers in Eastern Massachusetts, employed in both building and highway construction.

"The healthcare workers of 1199SEIU are proud to stand with Tommy Vitolo for re-election as state representative,” Tim Foley, executive president of 1199SEIU, said in a statement. "Tommy has always stood with caregivers as we've fought to protect good jobs and quality care. To help create a Massachusetts that works for all, his leadership is important in the legislature and in the communities we serve.
"Local 589 urges everyone in the 15th Norfolk District to vote for Tommy Vitolo for re-election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives,” John Clancy, recording secretary of ATU Local 589, said in a statement. “Rep. Vitolo has been a great asset to the working men and women of his district and throughout the state of Massachusetts, and he will continue to fight for the needs of working people.”

In addition to 1199SEIU, SEIU NAGE, Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, Boston Carmen's Union Local 589, Laborers Local 22, and Carpenters 328, Vitolo has been endorsed by 80 percent of the Select Board, 80 percent of all town-wide elected officials including all elected chairs, and 75 percent of Town Meeting Members. He has been endorsed by Senator Cindy Creem, former Governor Mike Dukakis, former MA-4 Congressman Barney Frank, philanthropist Chobee Hoy, Senior Center Board of Directors President Betsy Pollock, Climate Action Brookline Co-chairs Susan Martin and John Harris, over two dozen former Select Board and School Committee Members, three former Brookline State Representatives, and four former Brookline principals.
Vitolo has also been endorsed by Brookline PAX, the Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund, the Boston Teachers Union, Iron Workers Local 7, the Mass Organization of State Engineers and Scientists, and the Massachusetts Voters for Animals.
