Honoring A Brookline Resident Who Died In 9/11

Brookline resident Karleton Fyfe would have been 49 on Sunday.

BROOKLINE, MA — Sunday in New York a white rose was placed on the 9/11 memorial in honor of a Brookline resident.

On Sept. 11, 2001, the mother of Brookline resident Karleton Fyfe who worked for John Hancock called his home after seeing news of burning buildings and wanted to make sure her only son was not inside his 56th floor office in Boston, according to his obituary.

He wasn't, Fyfe's wife, Haven, assured her mother-in-law. He was on an airplane on a business trip. It was American Airlines 11.

Fyfe lived in Brookline with his wife, who was pregnant at the time, and their 1-year-old son.

With a background in philosophy and economics, Karlton was interested in the way money made the world economy function. On 9/11 the senior analyst boarded Flight 11 for a business trip.

Fyfe was one of at least three people who were killed as a result of the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001. Christine Barbuto, Manuel Del Valle Jr were also killed.

On Sunday, a white rose was placed at his name on the 9/11 Memorial in honor of his 49th birthday, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum posted to Facebook.
