BROOKLINE, MA — The Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists (MOSES) has voted to endorse Tommy Vitolo's re-election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

MOSES represents the 3,400 technical, engineering and scientific employees of 29 different agencies of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

"MOSES is proud to stand with Tommy Vitolo as he continues to fight for working families, tirelessly advocate for organized labor, and promote the protection of our precious natural resources," said Patrick Russell, MOSES's president, in a statement. "As one of the few engineers in the Legislature, his legislative advocacy is particularly effective on these important issues. Tommy is the clear choice for our endorsement and Brookline voters’ support.”

Vitolo has leveraged his engineering expertise while working on several policy issues in the past few years. The Town of Brookline spent nearly a decade attempting to persuade the MBTA to install transit signal prioritization (TSP) on the C Line to speed service, and Vitolo's efforts led to installation within 18 months of his swearing-in ceremony.

In addition, Vitolo’s amendment to create a specialized stretch energy code for new construction was included in the landmark 2021 climate law and a bill he introduced this legislative cycle to require the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance to adhere to that energy code was implemented via executive order.

Vitolo's expertise on energy and climate science also helped to persuade the House to include his amendment allowing municipalities, non-profits, and for-profit organizations to purchase offshore wind power in this year's energy legislation.

A two-term state representative, Vitolo has been a strong advocate for organized labor. Following the Janus vs. AFSCME Supreme Court decision, he joined colleagues in passing the Post-Janus bill over the Governor's veto in order to allow labor unions to align union fees and union duties toward employees.

In addition, Vitolo has joined picket lines and demonstrations with several unions in Brookline, including carpenters with Carpenters Local 328, Stop & Shop employees with UFCW 1445, educators with Brookline Educators Union, and baristas with Pavement UNITED and Starbucks Workers United.

"MOSES represents the scientists and engineers who work hard every day to design, maintain, and operate the Commonwealth's infrastructure,” Vitolo said in a statement. "Their technical expertise allows us to solve the biggest problems facing Massachusetts and the world. As a PhD engineer, I’m honored to have the support of my fellow science, technology, engineering, and mathematics professionals and their union.”

In addition to MOSES, Vitolo has also been endorsed by 80 percent of the Select Board, 80 percent of all town-wide elected officials including all elected chairs, and 75 percent of Town Meeting Members.

He has also been endorsed by former Governor Mike Dukakis, philanthropist Chobee Hoy, Senior Center Board of Directors President Betsy Pollock, Climate Action Brookline Co-chairs Susan Martin and John Harris, over two dozen former Select Board and School Committee Members, three former Brookline State Representatives, four former Brookline principals, Brookline PAX, and the Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund, the Boston Teachers Union, Iron Workers Local 7, and the Massachusetts Voters for Animals.
